For **ISM releases earlier than 2026.3**, use this workaround to embed a Modern Survey in an actionable email. This procedure updates the Adaptive Card authorization header to ensure that survey responses are submitted correctly from actionable messages.

Before you begin, complete the prerequisite procedure described in **Creating Actionable Message Provider with Microsoft Entra App Id**.

## Pre-requisites

**Creating Actionable Message Provider with Microsoft Entra App Id**

This configuration is required before you create or modify the actionable message payload used by Modern Surveys.

**Generate and update the Adaptive Card payload**

1. Open the **Modern Survey** that you want to embed in an email.
2. Select **Publish** > **Embed as email**.
3. Select the required business object and then copy the generated actionable message payload to the clipboard.
4. Extract the compressed JSON contained within the following script tag:

5. Open the **Actionable Messages Designer**
6. Select **Blank Card**.

7. Paste the extracted JSON into the **Edit JSON Payload** section.

8. Update the **Authorization** header value for the **Submit Survey** action and each **Star** or **Smiley** image action to&#x20;

- For Standard Question survey types, select or click an answer and then select **Submit Survey** to submit your response.

- For a Star Rating survey question, select each star and verify that the corresponding rating is recorded correctly.

- For a Smiley Rating survey question, select each smiley and verify that the corresponding rating is recorded correctly.

9. Copy the updated JSON and compress (minify) it by using a text editor that supports JSON minification or an online JSON minification tool.&#x20;
10. Enclose the compressed JSON in a \<script> tag, as shown in the following example, and use it as the Adaptive Card template payload.

11. Copy the Adaptive Card payload and paste it into the email body of the Triggered Action, Workflow, or Quick Action that sends the survey notification.
