An enterprise service is a type of blueprint within the application. Blueprints are CI categories that define the overall type and structure of a CI and include its properties. (An “enterprise service” may also be known as a business service or enterprise application.)

The only difference between an enterprise service and a regular application that runs on a host is the scale of applicability. Any application that serves as a front-end for other departmental users or external users can be termed an “enterprise service.”

This section outlines how to set up an enterprise service map and associate all of its dependent resources such as hardware, software, and any other supporting infrastructure.

The broad steps for setting up an enterprise service map are these:

- Identify the enterprise service.
- Create the CI blueprint types. Blueprints are CI categories that define the overall type and structure of a CI and include its properties.
- Add an enterprise service CI to the CMDB.
- Identify underlying assets and their IP addresses.
- Add CIs through Auto Discovery.
- Create the CI relationships.
- Add the relationships between the enterprise service and the associated CIs.
- Tag the CIs, which is the best way of identifying a CI’s relationship to a service.
